Our cat lost his manhood, as a youngster my wife had
his privates removed and had his front paws declawed. I was out of
town when the dreadful deed was done. Any way I have a pretty
confused cat. My
wife said, "He'll be less active, might eat a bit more but all in
all it will be worth it." Now that is a matter of opinion! Clawless
and ball-less, not a good
thing if you ask me. I think I'd be a little confused also. She was right.....to a point. He does eat more, but whenever we snap on his harness and hook up the leash our sweet cat becomes as mean as the Masked Avenger. He's ready to get outside and hunt! Our normally mild mannered cat gets bolder with 200 lbs on the other end of his leash. If I drop the leash he'll stop, turn around and glare at me until I pick it up. It reminds me of junior high, my younger brother would find himself in a tight spot and tell his antagonist, "my brother is going to kick your butt as soon as he gets here!" Like wise Darby feels more confident knowing I'm close by. On a recent safari we venture out the front door and Darby takes a quick nasal inventory. I figured out that he's checking for any new scents. One time my son had parked his fiancée's VW Jetta where my wife's SUV usually stayed. He noticed the change and knew instantly things had changed. He stalked the strange (to him) car slowly and deliberately. After careful inspection of the vehicle and then confirming a few smells of my son we were ready to pass our first hurdle. A different car and associated smells were now added to the CAT APPROVED LIST. |

It's hard to say where this zeal to hunt comes from. It hardly seems natural because when he does catch a lizard he gently transport it in his mouth, and promptly runs for the door to share the catch with his brother. they will nudge it to make it run, then chase it all over the house. I think the poor creature eventually succumbs to a heart attack. |
